Q: 1. What keeps water from shooting over Gutter Genius® DIY™?
A: The physical laws of surface tension, where liquid molecules cohere to one another while adhering, or bonding to a denser solid surface is the same principle used in the design of Gutter Genius® DIY™. Certified testing has shown that Gutter Genius® DIY™ panel can divert at least 6 inches of rain per hour. Most areas of the U.S. receive 30-35 inches of rain per year.
 
Q: 2. With Gutter Genius® DIY™ can anything get into the gutter?
A: 3 to 5% of the total volume of debris may potentially find its way into the gutter with Gutter Genius® DIY™. What little debris does actually find its way into the gutter usually washes away in subsequent rainstorms. We recommend that the downspouts be periodically checked for possible debris collection. This can be done by walking around the house in a rainstorm and observing the downspouts. If water is shooting out of the downspout, it is clear. Almost all clogs occur at the top of the downspout. With the new Gutter Genius® clip, removing clogs takes just a few minutes.
 
Q: 3. Can I do anything to reduce plugging the downspouts or gutter?
A: The single best solution is to install larger downspouts on your gutters (3" x 4" rather than 2" x 3"). You should also check the slope of your gutters to ensure the water is draining properly. If the gutters are not draining properly, it may affect debris accumulation in the gutter.
 
Q: 4. How long will Gutter Genius® DIY™ prevent me from cleaning my gutters?
A: That depends on many variables, but we've had many customers who haven't cleaned their gutters in well over 10 years. With Gutter Genius® DIY™, even in a heavy debris area your gutters should remain maintenance-free for several years. And with Gutter Genius® clip, it literally takes minutes to lift the panel nearest the downspout, clear the clog, and lock it back in place. As noted above, larger downspouts and accurate gutter sloping makes a big difference in any gutter protection system.
 
Q: 5. Does Gutter Genius® DIY™ prevent ice damming?
A: No, but it does prevent the build-up of snow and ice on the interior of the gutter, which will significantly reduce ice build-up on the gutter. Gutter Genius® DIY™ will not worsen the situation, and in most cases improves the situation.
 
Q: 6. Can Gutter Genius® DIY™ be used on roofs other than asphalt shingles?
A: Gutter Genius® DIY™ has been successfully installed on asphalt roofs, cement tiles, metal roofs and wood shake shingles. We do recommend that extra care be taken when installing Gutter Genius® DIY™ under cement tiles. In some cases, the upper area of the panel may need to be cut or notched out to work around nails near the eave. Gutter Genius® DIY™ also works well on steep roof lines.
 
Q: 7. Can squirrels or other animals get into my gutters with Gutter Genius® DIY™?
A: Because Gutter Genius® DIY™ is made of .018 solid aluminum (unlike vinyl), animals rarely penetrate the gutter system.. If aggressive squirrels do get into the gutter it is usually through an outside corner. In areas with aggressive squirrel problems, we recommend overlapping the two outside corner panels (miter one and put it over the other one), and putting a screw through both panels.
 
Q: 8. Should I try to match the color of my gutters with Gutter Genius® DIY™?
A: We recommend installing the panel color that attracts the least attention to your gutters. Because Gutter Genius® DIY™ is the lowest profile solid aluminum product available it doesn't make sense to us to draw attention to the panel. In most cases, black or white blend into the gutter and roof line best. We offer Gutter Genius® DIY™ in four colors: black, white, brown and gray.
